Pippin showstopper Andrea Martin is turning in her trapeze. The stage and screen favorite, who currently plays quick-witted grandmother Berthe in the Tony-winning revival, is departing Pippin on September 22 to film the previously announced Toronto-based TV sitcom Working the Engels. A replacement for Martin will be announced shortly. Four-time Tony nominee Tovah Feldshuh recently stepped in for Martin when she took a hiatus from the production.
In addition to Martin, Pippin currently stars Matthew James Thomas, Tony winner Patina Miller, Tony nominee Terrence Mann, Tony nominee Charlotte d’Amboise and Rachel Bay Jones. The circus-inspired revival of Stephen Schwartz’s beloved musical opened April 25 at the Music Box Theatre.
Martin won Tony Awards for Pippin and My Favorite Year and garnered additional nominations for Oklahoma! and Candide. Her many film and TV credits include SCTV, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, The Producers and Wag the Dog.
